Artist Statement: Plastic Oceans
Plastics are amazing materials that allow us joy, utility, convenience, and can even save lives. Despite these advantages, they are creating harm to the earth. We must use them wisely to limit CO2 emissions generated by their creation and we must use and dispose of them responsibly so they don’t end up polluting our oceans, our land, our bodies, and killing the animals on earth.
Biodegradable alternatives that can reduce CO2 emissions in their creation need to be developed and/or a way to dispose of plastic waste cleanly without expending more energy. This globe hopes to inspire us to come up with solutions through the funding of science, the supporting the political action to regulate, and the individual commitments to buy alternatives when possible and recycle until the alternatives are available. With action on all fronts, we can create a clean new world.
